Editor’s note: This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

SHELBY – Tragedy has struck Shelby City Schools.

Superintendent Michael Browning issued a notice informing residents of the death of sophomore Graham Scott. He said he learned the news Saturday night.

“We have received many calls and questions about how parents can best help their children,” Browning wrote.

School counselors and outside counselors were available to students individually or in small groups starting at 10 a.m. Sunday.

“This support will continue throughout the week and for as long as we need it,” Browning wrote.

The superintendent added, “We don’t have any other information at this time, but we’ll keep you updated as we review what the school looks like throughout the week.”

“We aim to help our students, staff, and community cope with this tragic loss. If your child needs to talk to anyone, please encourage them to talk to their school counselor,” she said.

Browning closed by asking people to keep Graham’s family in their thoughts and prayers.

No further information was available Sunday night.
