The fire brigade spokesman said: ‘Our fire brigade completed their investigation at the scene.

‘The cause of the fire was accidental and involved a mobile bike converted into an electric bike stored in the corridor of the property.’

A female neighbor said: ‘My son woke me up and said he could see flashing lights and that the fire truck had been found.

‘Too bad. I saw these but I didn’t recognize them. A woman and her boyfriend, I guess. Maybe late twenties, early thirties. They were not very old.

‘The girl was a white-haired, blond-haired man and I think he was a young Asian lad. I was surprised that there was damage to the upper part of the house and not the lower part.

‘I can see the windows, they’ve melted out of the frame. It’s all plastic, so they melted. They’ve been living here for a few years.’

Another woman living nearby said: ‘My husband was woken up by the fire brigade and police.

‘They were everywhere on the street and there were lots of people shouting.

‘I looked out my window and it was complete chaos. I have since sadly learned that two people have died.

‘The road was blocked by the police and I couldn’t go back home.’
