Things to do in Washington DC on Veterans Day

With millions of retired and active military members in the United States, most of America will celebrate someone Veterans Day this Monday, November 11th.

In the nation’s capital, veterans will fan out at memorials in Washington, D.C., trying to remember the past, and onlookers will try to celebrate it. There will be plenty to do for those looking to honor veterans at one of America’s most historic places.

Here are a few of them.

Veterans Day Celebration at Arlington National Cemetery

The 71st Annual Veterans Day Celebration, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the Memorial Amphitheater at Arlington National Cemetery. The United States Navy Band and the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters will perform a prelude in the amphitheater at 10:30 a.m.; wreath will be placed Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Administered by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington; and a national celebration at the Memorial Amphitheater with a colorful parade of veterans’ organizations and remarks by dignitaries.

Once at Arlington National Cemetery, participants must use a trolley to reach the amphitheater; Walking is prohibited.

Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian, commemorating Native veterans

Smithsonian’s Museum of the American Indian to host day-long event activity From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., we celebrate the contributions of Native Americans to the armed forces. Entrance is free and events will be held in the museum throughout the day.

Mount Vernon Salutes Veterans

An all-day event celebrating veterans will be held Monday at former President George Washington’s mansion in Mount Vernon. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free for active and retired military personnel. General admission is $28 for adults, $15 for ages 6-11, and free for ages 0-5.

There will be a flower ceremony and various musical performances throughout the day, including the Army Choir and Air Force String Band.

Veterans Day at the World War II Memorial

National World War II Friends Memorial hosts a ceremony activity At the event, which will start at 9:00 on Monday morning, World War II veterans will “lay wreaths on the Freedom Wall in memory of their fallen brothers.”

Military Women’s Monument at Arlington National Cemetery

Another free public event honoring women in the military will be held at Arlington National Cemetery from 3 to 5 p.m. The event will feature formal military ceremonies, speeches by current and former servicewomen from each military service, and a keynote address. sign up Here.
