ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – An apartment fire sent one person to the hospital in serious condition and caused an estimated loss of $20,000, the fire department said.

Just before 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 30, the Rockford Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at 505 N. Main Street.

When firefighters arrived, they said residents in the lobby said the fire was on the 12th floor.

A report states that a person affected by the fire was found in the lobby and was hospitalized in serious condition.

Fire crews said that after climbing the stairs, they saw smoke and fire in an apartment on the 12th floor and extinguished it in a short time.

No one was in the apartment and damage was estimated at $20,000, according to the report.
