Waterloo man arrested, allegedly broke into Bathroom Ambulance

BATH, NY (WET) — A Waterloo man was arrested early Wednesday morning after police say he broke into the Bath Ambulance building and was found hanging from a second-story window.

James L. Dyer, 38, was arrested after police investigated a report of a man breaking into Bath Ambulance, located at 110 E. Steuben Street, with people inside on Nov. 27. According to the Bath Village Police Department, all personnel had been evacuated from the building when officers arrived around 2:46 p.m. Staff told officers that the man, later identified as Dyer, broke the glass of the building’s front door to gain entry.

Dyer was later seen hanging from a second-floor bathroom window and officers told him to go inside to leave the building via a safer route, police said. Instead of returning inside, Dyer allegedly climbed to the roof of the building and refused to cooperate with police.

After a brief standoff, Bath Fire Department personnel lowered Dyer from the roof, according to the police department. After being taken into police custody, he was transported to Ira Davenport Hospital to be treated for self-inflicted injuries.

Dyer was charged with second-degree burglary (class C felony) and criminal mischief (class D felony).

After being released from the hospital, Dyer was taken to the Steuben County Jail to await his charges being read in court. Dyer has since been released.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Bath Fire Department and Bath Ambulance assisted the Bath Police Department in this incident.
