Popular London pub ‘unexpectedly closes for good’ as landlord takes it back | UK News

Market House in Brixton, south London, closed abruptly this weekend after its landlords took back the property.

Notices on the windows from the Administrative Recovery and Enforcement Agency read: ‘These properties were seized today with the authority of the landlord.

‘The notice has been served hereby and the right to rent has been forfeited.’ Brixton Buzz reports

The venue was a popular two-storey pub and was home to the Original Flava restaurant, opened by food influencer brother Craig and Shaun McAnuff.

Traditional Jamaican cuisine was served when the Market House became the first permanent restaurant residence.

The facility, which has been closed since 2021 for an extensive renovation, reopened in March this year.

The pub is just one of many that have been forced to close in the last few years due to the decline of London’s nightlife.

Dog StarThe club, also based in Brixton, closed permanently in October despite its reputation as one of the ‘most visible Black clubs’ in the capital.

Slum dwellers have since occupied the building and even put a legal notice in the window.

The club, which is headquartered just off Piccadilly Circus, will reportedly be turned into a luxury hotel after operating at a loss for years.

Pubs, bars and newsagents saw the biggest overall decline in registrations and increase in closures.
