Garrett Nussmeier exited Oklahoma game with upper-body injury

Garrett Nussmeier was forced to leave LSU’s Week 14 contest against Oklahoma on Saturday night after suffering an upper-body injury.

Nussmeier was hit in the blindside after OU’s R Mason Thomas beat All-American left tackle Will Campbell off the edge. Nussmeier landed hard on his right shoulder and required medical attention before being carried off the field.

Here’s a replay of Thomas’ hit on Nussmeier:

Nussmeier was replaced by backup point guard AJ Swann for the remainder of the series. Swann, a former Vanderbilt transfer, has attempted just one pass for the Tigers so far on Saturday night. But he played quite a bit at Vandy in 2022 and 2023. He threw for a career-high 1,457 yards for the Commodores in 2023.

Swann remained in the game for LSU’s second series following Nussmeier’s injury.

LSU hopes to end the 2024 regular season on a high note. The Tigers snapped a 4-game losing streak by beating Vanderbilt last weekend, but they need to beat Oklahoma on Saturday to go 8-4 in the regular season.

LSU is 2-1 all-time against Oklahoma. The Sooners’ only previous win in this series was in 1950.

UPDATE (8:32 PM ET): Nussmeier re-entered the game with 2:02 left in the half. An LSU spokesperson confirmed to the ESPN broadcast that he suffered a shoulder injury but was good to continue this game.
